The actual colour of the lacquer is a beautiful Dark Red, appears loghter in images

A superb cinnabar / red lacquer box vintage 1950's
The cover bordered on the top and sides with scrolling tendrils and half lotus blossoms. The centre panel a portrayal of peony flowers blossoming on leafy stems set against a chequer ground.
The lower section carved around with stylised dragons and phoenix.
The inside and under lacquered black.
