Antique Edo Period mid 1600's Fuchi Kashira . (aound 400 years old)
Fuchi are placed on the front of the tsuka (handle) on a Japanese sword.
Kashira placed at the pommel
Fuchi & Kashira like many of the accoutrements of the Japanese Sword ( Katana, Wakizashi, Tanto) are in themselves miniature prized artworks.
This antique set over of fuchi kashira is made from Iron with shakudo inlay, depicting Hagi 萩 (Bush Clover) a flower associated with the Moon Festival in Autumn and one of the Seven Flowers of Autumn (Aki-no Nanakusa / 秋の七草) .
Condition very good, minor loss, some aged rust patination
