In Japanese the Praying Mantis is called Kamakiri.
In Japanese folklore, the Praying Mantis is associated with the samurai, symbolizing the warrior’s strength, courage, and readiness for battle. One legend tells of a samurai who, after watching a Praying Mantis defeat a much larger opponent, was inspired to adopt the insect’s fighting stance and techniques. The Praying Mantis became a symbol of the samurai’s determination and ability to overcome challenges, no matter the odds.
